The Cooperative Association of Japan Shipbuilders was established in 1959 to assist small and medium sized shipbuilding companies cooperate with each other, thus encouraging modernisation and allowing member companies to confront the challenges of tackling the export market.

The Association carries out surveys of the industry, with the intention of evaluating the needs of individual countries and promoting international cooperation.

It also studies how new technological innovation can be applied to smaller vessels, and compiles these findings into guidelines and advisory reports for it's member companies.
