Japan Marine Equipment Association (JSMEA) promotes the development of ship machinery and ship related industries.

JSMEA was established in 1966, born from a merger of two smaller trade associations. Since then JSMEA has devoted its energies to furthering ship and marine equipment technologies and promoting fair and open business practices within the industry.

The activities of JSMEA can be split into main areas as outlined below.

Research concerning business methods:
* Rationalisation of production and promoting the adoption of new technologies.
* Advocating the importance of ship machinery standardisation.
* Collecting data and compiling statistics on the domestic industry.

Promoting internationalisation within the industry:
* Participation at international maritime exhibitions.
* Holding overseas seminars on ship machinery technology.
* Research on overseas markets, and importation of machinery parts from abroad.
