Newly approved orders totaled 1,364,020GT (28 vessels) in May 2010.
May’s figures in GT were 168,122GT less (10 vessels less) than last month’s figures.
May’s figures in GT were 56,805GT less (1 vessel more) than achieved in the same month in 2009(FY2009).

A total of 6 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, 19 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments, and 3 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen and US-Dollar cash payments

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction". The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract. MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
