New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



September 2006 (FY 2006)

New orders totalled 1,292,405GT (38 vessels) in September 2006.

September's figures in GT were 5.1% higher (62,625GT more) than last month's figures.

September's figures in GT were 22.8% higher (239,816GT more) than achieved in the same month in 2005(FY2005).

Total number (3 / 35)


A total of 18 pure export ships were ordered.
( Greece x 4, Norway x 6, Italy x 2, Germany x 2, Hong Kong x 2, Taiwan x 1, Singapore x 1 )


2. Method of Payment
A total of 18 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 20 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2008 - 5
FY 2009 - 8
FY 2010 - 1

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
