New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



January 2007 (FY 2006)

New orders totalled 870,589GT (29 vessels) in January 2007.

January's figures in GT were 24.9% lower (289,385GT less) than last month's figures.

January's figures in GT were 21.6% lower (239,341GT less) than achieved in the same month in 2006(FY2005).

A total of 11 pure export ships were ordered.
( Cayman x 4, Italy x 2, Hong Kong x 2, U.S.A. x 1, Singapore x 1, Norway x 1)


2. Method of Payment
A total of 10 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 19 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
