New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*


February 2005 (FY 2004)

New orders totalled 1,224,500GT (32 vessels) in February 2005.

February's figures in GT were 223.9% higher (846,451 GT more) than last month's figures.

February's figures in GT were 38% lower than achieved in the same month in 2004.

Container Ship (0 / 1)
Chip Carrier (0 / 1)
Car carrier (1 / 0)

Total number (1 / 31)


A total of 12 pure export ships were ordered.
(USA x 2, UK x 1, Greece x 5, Republic of Turkey x 1, Bermuda x 2, Hong Kong x 1)


2. Method of Payment

A total of 13 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, 18 vessels were
paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments and 1 vessel was paid for in combined
US-Dollar & Japanese-Yen cash payment.

FY 2006 - 3
FY 2007 - 3

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
