New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



September 2005 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 1,052,589GT (37 vessels) in September 2005.

September's figures in GT were 9.6% higher ( 91,912 GT more) than last month's figures.

September's figures in GT were 35.7% lower than achieved in the same month in 2004.

Oil tankers (0 / 2)
Product tanker (0 / 1)
Chemical tankers (0 / 8)
LPG carriers (0 / 4)
Multipurpose cargo ship (1 / 0)

Total number (2 / 35)


A total of 13 pure export ships were ordered.
( Greece x 5, U.S.A. x 2, Virgin Is. x 2, Panama x 2, Austria x 1, Singapore x 1, )


2. Method of Payment
A total of 10 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 27 vessels were
paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.


3. Delivery Schedule

FY 2005 - 12
FY 2006 - 18
FY 2007 - 6
FY 2008 - 1

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
