New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



March 2005 (FY 2004)

New orders totalled 837,000GT (25 vessels) in March 2005.

March's figures in GT were 31.6% lower (387,500 GT less) than last month's figures.

March's figures in GT were 39.8% lower than achieved in the same month in 2004.

A total of 8 pure export ships were ordered.
(UK x 2, Netherlands x 2, Greece x 2, Panama x 1, Republic of Liberia x 1)


2. Method of Payment

A total of 1 vessel was paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, 24 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
