New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



February 2006 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 1,414,209GT (23 vessels) in February 2006.

February's figures in GT were 27.4% higher ( 304,279GT more) than last month's figures.

February's figures in GT were 15.5% higher than achieved in the same month in 2005.

Total number (1 / 22)


A total of 6 pure export ships were ordered.
( U.K. x 2, Singapore x 1, Germany x 1, Malaysia x 1 )


2. Method of Payment
A total of 13 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 10 vessels were
paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2007 - 4
FY 2008 - 2

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
