New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



January 2006 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 1,109,930GT (31 vessels) in January 2006.

January's figures in GT were 12.5% lower ( 157,840GT less) than last month's figures.

January's figures in GT were 193.6% higher than achieved in the same month in 2005.

Total number (0 / 31)


A total of 6 pure export ships were ordered.
( Singapore x 2, Algeria x 1, U.K. x 1, Korea x 1, Isle of Man x 1)


2. Method of Payment
A total of 9 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 22 vessels were
paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2007 - 5
FY 2008 - 3
FY 2009 - 1

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New

Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT

- formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any

point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
