New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



April 2006 (FY 2006)

New orders totalled 1,435,019GT (51 vessels) in April 2006.

April's figures in GT were 103.8% higher (730,769GT more) than last month's figures.

April's figures in GT were 87.6% higher (670,219GT more) than achieved in the same month in 2005(FY2005).

Container Ship (0 / 6)
Oil tanker (0 / 4)
Product tanker (2 / 2)
Chemical tanker (0 / 3)
LPG carrier (0 / 2)

Total number (2 / 49)


A total of 12 pure export ships were ordered.
( Panama x 3, Singapore x 3, Italy x 1, Greece x 1, Korea x 1, Taiwan x 1, Norway x 1, Hong Kong x 1 )


2. Method of Payment
A total of 9 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 42 vessels were
paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.


3. Delivery Schedule

FY 2007 - 15
FY 2008 - 8
FY 2009 - 3

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship

construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
