New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



November 2005 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 1,210,790GT (33 vessels) in November 2005.

November's figures in GT were 39.7% higher ( 344,284 GT more) than last month's figures.

November's figures in GT were 67.3% lower than achieved in the same month in 2004.

Container ship (0 / 1)

Total number (2 / 31)


A total of 7 pure export ships were ordered.
( Turkey x 2, Bermuda x 2, U.K. x 1, Singapore x 1,
Korea x 1 )


2. Method of Payment
A total of 11 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 22 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2008 - 2

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
