New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



August 2005 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 960,677GT (25 vessels) in August 2005.

August's figures in GT were 77.6% higher (419,657 GT more) than last month's figures.

August's figures in GT were 18.6% lower than achieved in the same month in 2004.

A total of 9 pure export ships were ordered.
(Canada x 1, Cyprus x 1, Greece x 2, Singapore x 1, Hong Kong x 2, Liberia x 2)


2. Method of Payment
A total of 9 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 16 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2008 - 4

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
