New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



December 2006 (FY 2006)

New orders totalled 1,710,250GT (30 vessels) in December 2006.

December's figures in GT were 32.2% lower (550,276GT less) than last month's figures.

December's figures in GT were 8.5% lower (107,796GT less) than achieved in the same month in 2005(FY2005).

Car carroer (0 / 2)
Oil tanker (0 / 4)
Product tanker (2 / 3)
Chemical tanker (1 / 4)
LPG carrier (0 / 2)
LNG carrier (0 / 1)
Car ferry (2 / 0)

Total number (5 / 32)


A total of 9 pure export ships were ordered. ( Greece x 3, Bermuda x 3, Cyprus x 1, Malaysia x 1, Liberia x 1)


2. Method of Payment
A total of 14 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 23 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.


3. Delivery Schedule
FY 2007 - 29
FY 2008 - 6
FY 2009 - 2

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
