New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



July 2006 (FY 2006)

New orders totalled 1,040,193GT (24 vessels) in July 2006.

July's figures in GT were 32.4% lower (498,856GT less) than last month's figures.

July's figures in GT were 92.3% lower (499,173GT more) than achieved in the same month in 2005(FY2005).

Chemical tanker (0 / 3)
LPG carrier (0 / 2)

Total number (1 / 23)


A total of 8 pure export ships were ordered.
( Greece x 2, Hong Kong x 2, Singapore x 1, Liberia x 1, Panama x 1, India x 1 )


2. Method of Payment
A total of 10 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 14 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval may be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
