New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*


June 2005 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 1,859,860 GT (41 vessels) in June 2005.

June's figures in GT were 14.5% higher (235,950 GT more) than last month's figures.

June's figures in GT were 148.8% higher than achieved in the same month in 2004.

Total number (1 / 40)


A total of 15 pure export ships were ordered.
(Turkey x 3, Italy x 4, Panama x 1, Germany x 1, U.K. x 1, Singapore x 2, Greece x 1, United Arab Emirates x 1, China x 1)


2. Method of Payment
A total of 16 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 25 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2008 - 3

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval June be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
