New Orders for Ship Construction in Japan as approved by the Japanese Government*



July 2005 (FY 2005)

New orders totalled 541,020GT (16 vessels) in July 2005.

July's figures in GT were 70.9% lower (1,318,840 GT less) than last month's figures.

July's figures in GT were 50.9% lower than achieved in the same month in 2004.

A total of 4 pure export ships were ordered.
(UK x 1, Taiwan x 2, Greece x 1)


2. Method of Payment
A total of 3 vessels were paid for in US-Dollar cash payments, and 13 vessels were paid for in Japanese-Yen cash payments.

FY 2006 - 8
FY 2007 - 1

*These figures had previously been referred to as "Japanese Government Statistics for New Orders in Ship Construction".
The above statistics represent the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT - formerly known as MOT) approval for ship construction. This approval July be issued at any point in time following completion of a contract.
MLIT figures record both domestic and export ships of 2,500 GT or 90m in length and over.
